All across the state, we have many dedicated district attorneys and assistant district attorneys who support and work hard for victims.
VOCAL would like to recognize Assistant District Attorney Angie Hamilton of the 11th Judicial Circuit in Lauderdale County who went above and beyond in seeking justice. Angie took on two cold cases which she worked in addition to her regular work load. After much hard work and many hours, both cases were solved. In fact indictments on both cases came down the same day.
The Barnett family had been waiting over 13 years for justice for their son, Keith Barnett. Angie prosecuted the case and Shawn Jackson was convicted of Murder sentenced to the maximum of Life. His brother, Shannon Jackson had pled guilty to manslaughter and 20 years. He withdrew his plea, and his trial will be held at a later date. Keith’s father stated he had never given up fighting for Keith. Angie Hamilton and DA Chris Connolly never gave up either.
The other cold case was solved, and Angie prosecuted the case of Eddie Frank Chandler. He received a murder conviction and was sentenced to Life for the murder of 17 year old Chris Stanback. This cold case was over 14 years. The Stanback family also had waited many years for justice for Chris. Justice was slow in this case, but in the end justice was achieved because of the dedication of ADA Angie Hamilton and others who also worked on the case.
VOCAL sends out a very special thank you to Angie Hamilton and DA Chris Connolly for their dedication in seeking justice for victims no matter how long it takes. Angie has a compassionate heart for victims because her grandmother was murdered. After the loss of her grandmother, Angie decided to become a prosecutor. She was determined to seek justice for all crime victims. Her determination is working.
