In memory of Arthur 'Bobby' Wilson who was murdered on Dec. 28, 2007.
My father was such an important part of our community. He and his brother J.B. purchased a full service gas station back in the early 60's. He worked seven days a week to provide for his family. And when he was not working he made time to be involved with the community of Spanish Fort. He was a justice of the peace; he married couples at the gas station- and sometimes even at our house. He stated the Spanish Fort Volunteer Fire Dept. He was the fire chief for 26 years. He coached softball. He was on the board of directors at South Trust Bank-now Wells Fargo. He was an active member of the Spanish Fort Methodist Church. He also ran a tow truck and worked accidents with the Alabama State Troopers and Sheriff's Dept.
He just about everyone and most people knew him as well. He was very influential. He was the unofficial mayor of Spanish Fort. He was always helping others. He was taken away from his family- in a robbery/murder. After three murder trials- and no one being held responsible; I decided to do something positive! I wanted to turn something horrible into something positive. With the help of some wonderful friends. We started a local chapter of Vocal. Vocal Gulf Coast. It is a victim's support group.
I knew that I could not choose what happened to my dad, but I could choose how I let it affect me. And I decided it was not going to make me bitter and ugly. I want to help others overcome a dark place- and see there is a light. I choose to be the light for my dad. I love and miss you so much daddy. I try every day to make you proud.
