FINALLY! A state elected official who has the courage to stop kicking that 'old dented prison can' down the road.

Janette Grantham, Director of VOCAL applauds Governor Ivey for her courage, foresight, and determination for a better and safer Alabama.

Today, Governor Ivey announces the next step in the construction of three new prisons to replace current facilities which are collapsing more each day.

Per Ms. Grantham, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the construction of new facilities is the first step toward solving Alabama's horrible prison facilities. Of course, this construction will not solve all of Alabama's prison problems, but it is a first step forward in our journey to provide humane facilities for inmates and ensure the safety our families and communities.

Thank You - Governor Ivey for your resolve to keep us safe.

Our community is hurting right now due to the senseless acts of violence. Let’s keep the Pughsley family and the Montgomery Police Department in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest in peace to 8-year-old Royta Giles Jr. Another beautiful life, gone too soon.

Royta Giles Jr

In a recent open letter to Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, 67 affiliates of the University of Alabama School of Law asked for the release of “all inmates over the age of 60; those with chronic illnesses, complex medical needs, compromised immune systems, and disabilities; and pregnant women” (“An open letter to Gov. Ivey from 67 in UA law community.”) In this open letter, students and professors from the law school specifically reference the Alabama Emergency Management Act, which asserts that the Governor has the power to exercise any “functions, powers and duties as are necessary to promote and secure the safety and protection of the civilian population” (Ala. Code § 31-9-8).

Miriam Shehane

On January 25, our founder Miriam Shehane celebrates another birthday. Miriam is the reason victims of crime have rights in Alabama. Because of her work, victims now have the opportunity to have their voices heard. While many people complained about how unfair the criminal justice system was, Miriam decided to make a difference and change the laws. We thank you, Miriam!

The staff at Vocal Angel House are very grateful for our founder!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIRIAM!!! ❤

"Across the country on January 9th each year, citizens take the lead to show support on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Law Enforcement Officers of every rank and file have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities. Vocal appreciates the officials that strive every day to make the process a little easier for victims. We appreciate you!"
