(Montgomery) – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall today announced the indictment of Austin Patrick Hall, of Shelby County, in the June 29, 2022 death of Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Johnson and the shooting of Johnson’s partner, Deputy Chris Poole. Hall is indicted on three counts of Capital Murder; one count of Attempted Murder and one count of Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Automobile. The indictment was served on Friday, June 16 at the Shelby County Jail.
On June 16, 2023, Attorney General Marshall’s Special Prosecution Division, in partnership with the Bibb County District Attorney’s Office, presented evidence to a Bibb County grand jury which resulted in Hall’s indictment on the five charges.
If convicted, Hall faces the death penalty or a sentence of life imprisonment without parole for each of the three charges of capital murder. The range of punishment for the attempted murder charge ranges from not less than 10 years to not more than 99 years or life imprisonment. The range of punishment for the discharging a firearm into an occupied automobile is not less than 2 years not more than 20 years’ imprisonment.
No other information about the investigation or Hall’s alleged crimes other than that stated in the indictment may be released at this time.
