Court Advocacy & Accompaniment Services
Navigating the criminal justice system can feel overwhelming, intimidating, and isolating—especially for those who have experienced crime. Our agency offers court advocacy and accompaniment services to ensure crime victims are not alone during critical stages of the legal process.
Victims may contact us to speak confidentially with a trained victim advocate who can explain what to expect, answer questions, and help make arrangements for an advocate to be present throughout criminal justice proceedings.
What Court Advocacy Looks Like
Our advocates provide support, information, and presence—not legal representation—so victims can participate in the process with greater confidence and understanding.
An advocate may accompany a victim to:
-
Law enforcement interviews
-
Meetings with prosecutors
-
Court hearings and trials
-
Sentencing proceedings
-
Post-conviction parole and pardon hearings
An advocate’s role is to stand with the victim, offer emotional support, help explain courtroom processes, and assist with communication and referrals as needed.
Survivor-Centered Support
We recognize that every survivor’s experience is unique. Court advocacy services are:
-
Voluntary – victims choose if and when they want advocacy support
-
Confidential – conversations with advocates are private within the limits of the law
-
Trauma-informed – advocates are trained to respond with sensitivity, respect, and care
Advocates work at the pace set by the victim and honor each person’s choices and needs.
"Thank you all for the support you have given me over the years. It is most appreciated." JV
