A Tuscaloosa County man has been sentenced in Bibb County Circuit Court following his guilty plea to Sodomy in the First Degree and Domestic Violence – Strangulation, charges stemming from a prolonged and violent assault against his former girlfriend.
Antonio Deriel Taylor was sentenced on January 15, 2026, by Circuit Judge Marvin Wiggins after entering a blind plea to the charges. The case drew significant attention because of the severity and disturbing nature of the offenses.
According to court records, the victim, identified as A.A., was held against her will and subjected to repeated abuse over several days. The victim was eventually able to contact a family member and request that law enforcement be sent to a Pizza Hut in Brent, Alabama. When officers arrived, the victim had locked herself inside a bathroom to escape Taylor.
A Bibb County grand jury indicted Taylor in November 2019 on multiple felony charges, including first-degree sodomy, first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation, attempted murder, aggravated cruelty to animals, unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance in the second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Taylor was denied youthful offender status in April 2020. On May 8, 2025, he entered a blind plea of guilty to first-degree sodomy and domestic violence by strangulation. After numerous continuances, the sentencing hearing was held earlier this month.

The State of Alabama was represented by Assistant District Attorneys R. Bryan Jones and Leif Hampton, while the defense was represented by attorneys Mitch Kemmer and Stuart Albea.
During the sentencing hearing, ADA Jones requested a 20-year sentence in the Alabama Department of Corrections, citing the extreme brutality of the offenses, the ongoing trauma suffered by the victim, and Taylor’s failure to comply with sex-offender registration requirements while released on bond awaiting sentencing. Prosecutors also argued that Taylor posed a continued danger to the community.
Judge Wiggins ultimately imposed a 15-year sentence, split to serve three years, but suspended the sentence in its entirety. Taylor was placed on five years of supervised probation, resulting in no period of incarceration in the Alabama Department of Corrections.
